Students of the Cambrian Harp School face tough competition at the Eisteddfod yr Urdd 2024

The talented students of the Cambrian Harp School faced stiff competition at the recent Eisteddfod yr Urdd 2024. Held in Maldwyn, the event is the largest youth festival in Europe and brings together young performers from across Wales to compete in various artistic fields.

This year’s harp competitions proved to be particularly fierce, with many highly skilled young harpists vying for top honours. Although the Cambrian Harp School, renowned for its rigorous training, has a history of strong performances at the Eisteddfod Urdd under the Derwent Harps School brand, the competition was challenging and there were no awards this year. But the experience of performing on such a prestigious stage was undoubtably confidence affirming for each student. Next year they will smash it.

Despite the pressure, the Cambrian Harp School students approached the competition with dedication and determination.

Months of diligent practice and meticulous preparation culminated in their performances. The school’s teachers expressed confidence in their students’ abilities to compete at the highest level.

Helen Naylor, Director of Music at Cambrian Harps and the students’ tutor said “I was so proud of the students. Each one gave their all and were able to hold their heads high following their stunning performances.”

The Eisteddfod Urdd transcends competition, serving as a vibrant celebration of Welsh culture and heritage. The event provides a platform for young people to showcase their talents, gain valuable experience, and connect with others who share their passion for the arts. For the harpists of the Cambrian Harp School, the Eisteddfod Urdd was an opportunity to represent their school with pride and contribute to the rich tradition of Welsh harp music.
